So, I took the CBEST this morning, in the hopes of potentially picking up some money substitute teaching. I don't know how viable that is given the number of out-of-work teachers at the moment, but it's worth a try. I now understand why Sarah said when she took it, the most difficult part was finding a parking space. I think I could have passed that my Freshman year in High School - my brian didn't wake up until halfway through because I didn't need it until then. And yet, there are people who fail that test multiple times. This disturbs me quite a bit. Carpooling with [livejournal.com profile] loupyone and [livejournal.com profile] sillymesaysme was fun - conversing with friends makes a dull process much better, particularly laughing about the test afterwords together.

Did SM2 take the test also? The thought of both of you teaching just tickles the hell out of me.

Yeah, that test is easy peasy. and it scares me that others fail it multiple times.

Yeah, I've heard that about it.. Still, I suppose it's like the old saying: The teacher only has to be one lesson ahead of the students...

" my brian didn't wake up until halfway through"

Interesting way to phrase it...

A friend of mine just became a substitute teacher and he's getting a few days here and there. Nothing close to full-time, though. It sounds like the educational equivalent of a temp agency.

and sometimes you actually do work for a temp agency. Kelly Educational Temps is the division that provides substitute teachers for many charters and all the parochials in Oakland, also the entire Mountain-View-Los-Altos school district, down where I am.

Brian, if you guys are serious about temping/subbing before next year, google the phrase above in addition to registering with local school districts, catholic schools (check with the diocese to find out what is their protocol for subbing - the kids at catholic schools tend to be really well behaved) and charter schools.

I also have a MONKEYload of links to lesson plans for substitutes which I will locate and send on request, so just remember me as a resource.

Yeah, my mom describes it as "The hardest thing about that test is finding parking."

You'll do great. Good luck getting gigs. *hugs*

Yeah, the CBEST? not so much. Once you take one of the subject exams, CSET or the multiple subjects one? That's when you need your brain the whole time.
