A Christian stand for gay marriage.

I realize that posting this here is preaching to the choir, but I feel a need to circulate this one a bit more.  Sarah and I did the initial draft, and Clay Ballard, our board chair and former campus minister rewrote it to the final form.  This went out today to the Davis Enterprise, UCD Aggie, Woodland Democrat, Sacramento Bee, Vacaville Reporter, and Fairfield Daily Republic, and is the official stand of CA House on prop 8.  Not that it'll be a surprise to anyone reading this who knows what CA House is.

The Cal Aggie Christian Association has long fought for the expansion of civil rights. We fought for racial equality at Selma. During the Vietnam era, we helped students facing the draft. We fought for women's rights and access to birth control. And now we must speak out for our LGBT community.

 

We all deserve the right to marry. As people of faith, we are heartened to witness the withering of the stigma of interracial marriages and interfaith marriages. In this new century we are optimistic that we will likewise see a withering of opposition to same-sex marriages. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "the arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice."

 

Marriage equality is today's most important battle in the struggle for the expansion of civil rights. This Christian ministry opposes Proposition 8, because all people, regardless of sexual orientation, deserve to be treated equally.

Hey, just a random thought/comment...

my church(mainly the youth) are going to do a few demonstrations against prop 8 on Monday and Tuesday night in EG. I'd need to check with my pastor, but do you want to come? If so, I may need to get you/sarah fingerprinted. Just figured I'd pass it along.

I'm glad to see real opposition to this in the churchs. Thanks for sharing that.
