So, I suppose that it's time to mention that our new place is available to show to people now. This week we had the heating and AC replaced with the more energy efficient models, and the attic insulation enhanced to the current suggested standard. Next week, the weatherization gets done (where they seal all the cracks and crevices in the place), the windows get replaced, and the wood floor starts to go in. The floor's supposed to be done by the following week, so we're likely to try and do the major moving on Sunday the 19th (Since Saturday's the Pryankster Party).

This weekend has so far involved moving a few loads of stuff that can go in the garage, as well as some minor tinkering around the new place. I replaced all the dimmer switches in the house with standard light switches, since we like compact flourescents, and they don't do well on dimmers. I also added GFCI protection to the kitchen, which was lacking. I'm underwhelmed by whoever wired the dimmers in the first place, as two of them had ground wires which hadn't been connected, even though all that needed to be done was to connect the ground wire to the bare ground wire already in the box. Oh well. I'm glad that we left ourselves a budget for odds & ends as a few trips to the hardware store add up quickly.

[livejournal.com profile] temperance14 was kind enough to come out yesterday afternoon and provide the use of her SUV to pick up a futon at IKEA, which will replace the couch of doom as seating & overnight guest space in the new place. We also got a more energy-efficient cat door for Arabia, as the one left in the place is sized for a dog. This weekend, I need to get that installed, so the weatherization people can fix any air leaks I miss when I'm sealing it. May as well take full advantage of the services we're paying for. We attempted and failed to fit a recliner loveseat which was a free-from-the-curbside find into her vehicle, so it was left at [livejournal.com profile] ailurodragon's place until we get the use of a bigger vehicle.

Yesterday, we also discovered that getting a gas range is not happening soon - the estimate to run the line for it is $5800, as they'd have to run a new line from the meter since the existing piping is of insufficient diameter to connect another major appliance. I didn't think to ask whether we'd be able to do without the new line if we replaced the hot water heater with one or two on demand units, but that's more of an upgrade than we'd be likely to try and do now anyway.

Reposted from the email Sarah's sent out. If you can read this and want to come, you're invited.

Hey All,

We have our very own house!!! It's squeeerific.

In an attempt to force ourselves to get it into shape in short order, and add to the summer festivities we're having a house warming on August 15th.

We've tried to invite everyone, but if you know someone we know who thinks they're not invited please let forward the invitation. Also of course family and significant others are welcome.

We'll kick things off around noon, and keep going until people head home. The neighbors have kids, so the volume should drop around 10. This can be effected by moving inside since the insulation is quite good.

We'll provide some food and drink, but please bring a dish or drink to share.

We are moving from a similarly sized place, so we do not need anything to set the place up. Thus we are not asking for gifts. However, since some folks have expressed an intention to provide such, and asked what we wanted we've been pondering and what would be most useful to us would be gift cards to:
