Aaargh, moving!
Sep. 5th, 2004 08:49 amNow that I'm settled in to have *some* net access again... I am reminded again why I hate moving in Davis. Does anyone know *why* all the leases expire on the 31st, and new ones don't start until the 1st? It seems to me that some kind of staggered arrangement of people moving out and in would make life easier on all involved - I mean this way, the complexes have to try and get their entire complex cleaned in the space of around 12-24 hours. Seems nuts to me. And I'm really quite annoyed with Chatauqua/Casitas - they claimed that people transferring from other apartments in their complex would get priority for the cleaning and such, and that they'd be trying hard to get them ready on the 31st, or at least morning on the 1st. As of 2PM on th 1st, the cleaners hadn'e even started, and this was after a couple of times of "well, it should be ready by 10 AM, then noon, then a couple hours from now..." You'd think they could at least have things organized enough to have some idea of when their cleaning staff would actually get to an apartment. As it was, we couldn't move in until 5:30, which was only an hour before they let everyone in. So much for priority status. I could understand if they'd had to replace the carpet or something, but from my understanding, it really just required basic cleaning. Grrr....
And then, I had to deal with SBC, who I'd called a month in advance to make sure my phone would get hooked up on the 1st, but who couldn't seem to manage that simple task - apparantly, at the particular time on the 1st they came out there, the previous account hadn't been disconnected, so my order went on hold. Not on hold until it was disconnected, just on indefinite hold until i called to harrass them - I have a strong suspicion that if I hadn't called in, they just wouldn't have gotten around to it for a while - at least when I called, they were good about getting it working again - I was initially assigned for it to get connected Tuesday, then passed up the phone chain to someone who had the authority to hurry things along, who called me back a couple hours later to say that it should be working when I got home from work. And fortuantely, Splendiferous Girlfriend was willing to act as message service for me with the company I had a phone interview with Tuesday, since they called that morning, shortly after I finished harassing SBC to say that they want to interview me in person - wish me luck this Thursday! It's a seed company in Woodland that does plant improvement via molecular genetics, among other things, and they're looking for a tech in their R&D division. It sounds like a lot of fun.
Yesterday was an upper - went to the State Fair with Silly Girlfriend and her mother, neither of whom had ever been before. We had a blast wandering around through the exhibits and generally exploring the fair. I was not so smart, and forgot a water bottle, so I ended up with a massive headache that night - bad Brian, must remember this in future.
Anyway, back to the unpacking.
